Kumiko

Kumiko knitting pattern by Kineco Design

Kumiko -組子- is a traditional Japanese woodworking technique of assembling intricate wooden pieces without nails.
This pullover features a stitch pattern inspired by a classic Kumiko motif called 'Mikado' (帝つなぎ).
The front and back panels are worked flat, then joined to work the Kumiko pattern in the round.
After working each side from the pattern, the sides are joined using the I-cord Join, and then the sleeves are worked in the round.
Finally, the neck and hem are picked up and knitted in the round.
